A Oral Health Care Curriculum for Child Care Health Consultants and Advocates

Specific Aim:

The aim of this pilot project is to develop an oral health curriculum for Child Care Health Consultants and Advocates in California who provide care to ethnically diverse children ages 0-5 years old. The curriculum will be evaluated using both quantitative and qualitative methods. The oral health curriculum will include:

· Current research and issues on the oral health of young children

· Risk assessment and prevention of oral health problems in children ages 0-5 years old

· Criteria for referral and identification of referral sources in the community

· Culturally sensitive oral health care for the diverse populations of California

Training Curriculum:

We completed our oral health curriculum, Health and Safety in the Child Care Setting: Promoting Children's Oral Health A Curriculum for Health Professionals and Child Care Providers. The final curriculum was funded by the Dental Health Foundation's First 5 Oral Health Initiative.
